A visit to Yasur, a live volcano

From the overlook just behind the Friendly Bungalows, you
can see the Yasur volcano fuming. It is, by foot, 6 kilometres away.
The Friendly Bungalows new 4 wheel drive vehicle will
drive you within 150 metres of the crater wall in an easy
20 minute drive.

The
road up the side of the volcano is lush with rain forest fern trees.
The best time to visit is at sunset. Be sure to take something warm to wear as it can be very cool and windy on the rim of the crater after sunset.

As the sun sets, the volcano craters become more spectacular. There are three active craters, each sending up bursts of molten lava into the evening sky. Every so often, at unpredictable intervals, the volcano erupts with an ear-splitting boom and a huge fountain of fire.
