About Friendly Bungalows; ideal accommodation on the
Island of Tanna

Jessel Niavia, in the blue shirt, is the manager of Friendly Bungalows accommodation in Tanna, Vanuatu. He is also, as you can see, pretty handy when it comes to building the bungalows, taking care of the generator, or looking after the spring water well. He comes from the village just up the road from the bungalows but has traveled extensively as an engineer aboard merchant ships. More than likely he'll be the one driving the Friendly Bungalows 4 wheel drive vehicle when you arrive at the Tanna Airport (aka Whitegrass Airport). His wife Mary is co-manager and is in charge of the Kitchen, Restaurant , Bungalows and Staff. The staff are also from the same village. They all speak English and several also speak French. Plus of course, they are most adept with the Vanuatu Bislama and their own ancient one-talk language. You will be astonished at how likable and friendly everyone is - it is the Tanna way, almost childlike in purity and fun. |

Natural accommodation in Tanna, VanuatuFriendly Bungalows was first built in 1997, but the accommodation change from time to time, with new ones being woven, like big baskets, from local materials as the need arises. In January 2008 the villagers built two new bungalows, a massage hut and all the furnishings have been replaced. In 2007 Peter and Joanne, together with their family, Hayley, Carla & Lucas became the new "owners" of this gorgeous place in paradise. They are the owners of Poppy's on the Lagoon resort in Port Vila and fell in love with Tanna and Friendly Bungalows during their many years of exploring Vanuatu. They are especially passionate about ensuring a sustainable future for this magical place.
What fun every one has at Friendly Bungalows! And believe me, this makes all the difference in the world to you and your loved ones. You arrive as guests of Peter, Joanne and their family and wind up as honored guests of the whole village. You have only to adopt a relaxed, friendly and respectful attitude and everyone will do their very best to make you feel at home. The support and leadership of Peter, Joanne, Jessel and Mary and their families are what transforms the wilderness of SE Tanna into Friendly Bungalows. The whole facility is pretty small, with a total of 22 beds, including double beds, so if you want to bring a small group of intrepid adventurers, you could reserve the whole place. Friendly Bungalows is very successful in many ways.
